What is Photojournalism?
A
1) What impact does photojournalism have on small-town photojournalists?
The impact that photojournalism has in a small town is huge. This is because in small towns people tend to know each other more. This means that you have to be able to separate business from pleasure. The good thing about a small town is that you get to photograph your family and friends in their huge accomplishments. however, as with everything, there's a double side to everything. In this video of photojournalist Jason Henske says "It presents problems when I photograph a young man graduating and his achievements and two years later, I photograph his coffin coming home from Iraq" The impact that this must have on him has to be sad knowing that the same child you watch graduate, you now have to watch get buried.
2) What Risks do war photographers face when putting their lives in danger for an image?
The risks that photographers in wars face are not just the fact that of course they can be injured although that is a huge risk. they also have to be able to understand that even if you are risking your life and you are in harm's way your picture might not be used to illustrate what's going on in these wars. for example, In the video In Harms Way Alissa met with an Israeli editor named Nati Shohat to show him her pictures of Iraq he stated "If you want to go to Gaza it's very dangerous" then he proceeded to let her know that photographers are being kidnapped. The worst part of all of this is that she is not ensured of any safety or that even if she does make it back safe her pictures could probably not even be considered.

C) I follow news on CNN, about the Ukraine and Russia war because I have many friends that are currently in Poland running missions and helping out. I also follow this news because it is important to me to know any world events going on at the moment that can affect us at anytime. I try not to follow any social media news on the events going on around the world because sometimes they dont truly tell the true story. Although with CNN I still try to do my research on topics with Ukraine and Russia to make sure the stories are true, I have learned by research that sometimes people will post a sad picture of a different war and then tell a story thats not factual. To me photojournalism is being able to capture a moment in which even if you dont understand the true significance of whats going on in places, you are able to feel emotions through the image that was captured. I took this course because I want to learn about the history of photojournalism and how it has improved over time. I am curious to learn about different types of photojournalism and what it means to others.
