History of photojournalism

  Photo By: Shakira Martin 1 Dec 2024     I chose to do a collage of Neil Leifer most impactful images that highlights some of the incredible things he has done in his photojournalism career with sports. Adding on to the collage I  wanted to add my own personal feelings about these images and what came to my mind when I did a research therefor I created a poem to express some of those feelings.  Below is the Poem written in the middle of the collage in case it's hard to read.  A moment is a fleeting thing, unless you capture it.   A) After reading Module 12 content learning about what motivates photojournalists and reflecting on what inspires me I would like to say that some things may be different. Still, one thing is the same, the motivation to succeed for me is just as important as it is for some photojournalists. Success is important for me, but I rely on my support system and faith to accomplish all of my goals. My motivation is my family and showing my kids that their mother has succeeded even through all the trials and triumphs. For me, my motivation is being able to leave my kids with generational wealth and not allowing them to have to struggle.  A)  In what manner did you respond to the images presented by your classmates?   Emotionally?  Intellectually?  Spiritually?  Viscerally?  What were your cumulative impressions?  After thoroughly reading through my classmate's blog post on photojournalism and Bias, I have mixed emotions about the images that were chosen. However, I do agree with the images that were chosen for truth in photojournalism, this is because most images had shown emotion and the truth about photojournalism.  A) Photo By: Ed Clark : 13 April 1945 B)  This image by Ed Clark is a very powerful image that shows a lot of emotions but as I stare at the image I see grief. The way the instrument is being played with so much emotion shows a man mourning a huge loss. After learning more about the image I can see the connection that the musician had with President  Franklin D. Roosevelt and the emotions that His death brings. Showing us how he was a loved man and a good leader. Another thing I notice about the picture is his clothes. The one that I found was about a photojournalist whose Integrity was questioned with an image. This one was important to me because it talks about Integrity and that's one of my biggest Ethics to live by also because integrity is huge in the photojournalism industry.  C) Integrity is the biggest Ethic/Controversy that I chose to talk about.
